Natural Light Portraits


Thanks to the amazing Sydney weather the last week or two, I’ve been out shooting lots of portraits on location. Nothing better than using natural sunlight, with a whole array of reflectors and black cards to shape the light and produce something amazing without the need for flash! Here’s one example. This was for Loyal Property in Chatswood.


This is Mikael Borglund – CEO from Beyond Communications. I took this shot as a part of a location shoot for his publicity material. I love the lines and architectural feel in the photo.

Lumina BPO’s Marketing Collatoral

A mammoth project spanning 5 days of shooting – the photography took us everywhere from sunrise cityscape location shots out of Kings Cross to Martin Place lunchtime action photos to interior shots using Lumina staff and management to MLC centre level 52 viewing deck sunset landscape shots. Lumina use the photography for their website, brochures and advertising. All the ideas / concepts were created by Kris Baum based on Lumina’s re-branding strategy.

Elders Inner West get snapped

Elders Inner West needed some photography to let them advertise their staff and begin some more marketing initiatives using the faces of their sales team. We photographed these great shots at Sebastian’s own home, using a whole set of locations, props and lighting both indoor and outdoor.  A massive day of photography with over 30 people to photograph in total.

The Hotel School’s Marketing Collatoral

Over a period of 6 months, I have been working closely with The Hotel School Sydney (THSS) and their General Manager – Julie Orton. Julie was in the process of updating THSS’s 2012 prospectus and asked me to produce a series of shots. Some would be used for advertising, marketing & even banner displays at special events.

Here is a selection of some of the work that Julie used.

Our beautiful concept shot for the Hotel School’s 2012 prospectus. This image was photographed & art directed by myself, collaborating with Bobby Rakich from Liquid Visual who provided the graphic design expertise. The image is all about conveying the idea that if you join the hotel school you have a multitude of career choices to follow, globally as you grow and learn.

Another conceptual shot, the client wants happy students interracting, while showcasing the amazing scenery just five minutes walk from the Hotel School.

Portrait of The Hotel School’s general manager – Julie Orton. We specifically chose this location because it had the right balance of natural backlighting to highlight Julie’s hair, bright/shade area in the background and some of the old stone cobble facade which is signature of THSS.
